The book ”In Defence of the Quran” by professor Kamal Abu Deeb takes as its starting point the TV program “Islam: The Untold Story” where Tom Holland, backed by Patricia Crowne, claims that Islam was invented by the Umayyad Caliph Abdul Malik. Abu Deeb analyses the program and the facts presented by Holland and dissects them based on a close reading of the Quranic text. He further founds his research on significant and relevant words and their relations and connections with other words and thereby shows the cohesion and singleness of the authorial work. This in turn alludes to the fact that the Quran cannot have been composed by many writers in different times and places, as claimed by Holland. By a study of Surat Miriam, Abu Deeb gives a practical example of the interrelations of rhymes and messages in the text.Abu Deeb provides sufficient documentation of the validity of the Islamic calendar, using non-Islamic historical records, in his well-researched study.
